2018 Board of Directors

Ashley.jpgAshley Schoen - President

Ashley is running for her second term in this position. "Back in 2008, I randomly decided I wanted to start playing golf. So after Googling for women’s golf leagues, I came across the EWGA organization. The next day I went and picked up a set of clubs and started watching you-tube videos of Tiger Woods to learn how to play. Three months later I had the opportunity of playing in the Mock Chapter Championship and have never looked back since. I firmly believe in the tenants of the EWGA organization and am proud to be a part of it. I have made some amazing friends and even developed my golf game along the way. When I am not playing golf, I work as an IT professional specializing in Enterprise Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions. My husband and I are avid snowboarders and frequent the West Coast for amazing rides."

IMG_0018.JPGLaurie Ben, Events & Activities Director

Laurie is an avid GOLFER. She loves to golf, which was not the case, through her teens, 20s, 30s, or even 40s.   As a reward for two grueling years working towards her executive MBA, she treated herself to lessons, through UT- Austin informal classes.  And as Laurie put it "I had never been so frustrated in my life."  It is hard to hit that little white ball off the little white tee, let alone when it’s lying on the ground.   But she kept at it, through the 6 week series, meeting once a week on a driving range.  After the first couple of lessons Laurie realized she was having fun.  She was outdoors, in the sunshine, and was having a blast, especially when she connected and hit the ball straight.

After she finished her lessons, Laurie looked for and joined EWGA-Austin in 2007.  Laurie met talented and successful women from all backgrounds; women who run their own businesses (realtors, building contractor, financial advisors), scientists, psychologists, web designers, software developers, project managers, and a retired judge.  The women of EWGA-Austin helped teach Laurie about the game of golf (golf etiquette, course management, playing to your strengths, and having fun).

Laurie has played golf in Ireland, California, Florida, Colorado, Wisconsin, and of course Texas.  She has gone places on vacation, she never would have gone; seen beautiful courses and played where the pros play (Torrey Pines, Whistling Straights, and Pebble Beach to name a few). All of this through the wonderful friendships she made by belonging to EWGA.

To support her golf habit, Laurie, a Chemical Engineer, works with Emerson Process Management in Round Rock/Austin, Texas as Director, in Global Business Development.

"Hello fellow EWGA members I didn't start golfing until I was 50, but have been hooked ever since. I love the game and love the rules. When I'm not working as a Technical Account Manager at Tableau Software, I try to play as often as I can. I served on the board of the Northwest Ladies Golf Association, mostly as the Events Chair, for several years before moving to Austin in 2015. I'm looking forward to another great year of fun golf with this great group of ladies, and would be honored to serve on the board of the Austin chapter of the EWGA."

Teri_Headshot.jpegTeri Evans, Member Recruitment Director

Teri Evans is a local business owner of three (3) Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa’s in Austin.  She has been playing golf for about 12 years.  Teri joined the EWGA shortly after trying out golf.  Her first event was a EWGA Happy Hour.  Teri recalls the women were quite friendly and thought right away that she would make friends with some of the ladies.  Teri is now an avid golfer.  She takes her golf clubs on all trips now.  Teri travels several times a year with her golfing friends from EWGA.

Teri has served on the EWGA Board in many positions over the last 12 years. Currently she as membership recruitment director.  Teri enjoys her experience in the EWGA and wants to share it with others.

Karol_headshot.pngKarol Davidson, Communications Director

Karol is an attorney with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), Office of General Counsel. Karol took up the game of golf in October 2009, when her mom invited her to vacation at Hilton Head so long as she learned how to play golf. She immediately became obsessed with learning the game, practicing and playing at least four or five times a week. Karol joined EWGA-Austin in 2010 and played in her first golf tournament, the Lone Star Cup, in 2010 before she knew all the rules of golf. Karol recalls the women were amazing and patient as she hacked her way around the course. Karol now believes any day is a great day to golf. Her motto "Have clubs, will play."
